How to replace Apple Powerbook G4 Battery

If your PowerBook G4 isn’t running as long as it used to on battery power, you’ll need to replace the battery. Apple’s website

states that removable batteries used in certain Apple notebooks, including PowerBook G4 models, can be fully charged and

discharged up to 300 times before losing efficiency if they’ve been properly maintained. Taking a few minutes to change the battery can spare

you the hassle of losing unsaved work or having an online game unexpectedly interrupted.

Shut your computer down and turn it over.
Look for the battery release latch on the bottom of your computer. Turn the latch one quarter or ninety degrees clockwise with a coin to open

the battery compartment. Carefully remove the battery.

Place the charged battery in the battery compartment. Turn the latch one quarter or ninety degrees counterclockwise with a coin to close the

latch and secure the battery in place.
All Other PowerBook G4 Models

Shut your computer down and flip it over.
Find the battery release latch or latches on the bottom of your computer. The location varies for each model. Slide the latch or latches down to

open the battery compartment. Carefully remove the battery.

Place the charged battery in the battery compartment at an angle. Make sure the battery’s LED side goes in last if you’re

using a 15-inch or 17-inch PowerBook G4. Insert the battery’s LED side first for all other models.

Push down on the battery until the latch closes.
Put your computer in sleep mode before replacing the battery if you need to change it while working. The internal backup battery will run for

about one minute. This procedure will not work with operating system Mac OS X v10.0.

Don’t take the Apple Powerbook G4 battery out before you shut down your computer or you could lose data.
